Today, all of us at Netafim add our voice in support of the worldwide campaign to increase global awareness and drive action for the protection of the environment.

Designated back in 1974 by the United Nations to be recognized annually on June 5, World Environment Day (WED) is celebrated in over 100 countries. More than a million people worldwide take part in WED activities to show their commitment to protecting the future of planet Earth. Each year, a different country undertakes to host WED, adding a particular theme of local relevance. This year, Angola is hosting WED and has committed to act strongly against wildlife crime in order to safeguard the country’s natural heritage and help protect Southern Africa’s rich biodiversity.

At Netafim, every day is Environment Day. Resource conservation and environmental protection is at the core of what we do. Every micro-irrigation system that we add in the market creates a positive impact for the planet, as well as for the farmers and communities that benefit from increased yields with better quality.
For example, just this last week, we took part in the 2016 Mushroom Days exhibition and conference in The Netherlands, where we unveiled our new breakthrough drip irrigation solution for mushroom growers, delivering better yields with lower energy and water use. Typically, with a wide range of crops, in any country, drip irrigation can double the level of top grade produce while halving water use and reducing energy use by a third or more. That’s why, when we say “grow more with less”, we can prove it.

On World Environment Day, we encourage farmers around the world to grow more with less, and we urge policy makers to support the mass adoption of drip irrigation so that all farmers, especially smallholders in emerging economies, can gain access to this essential technology.

Happy World Environment Day to all!
