Sacramento Spells Water Stewardship

If you’d been in Sacramento last week, you could have looked in on The California Water Stewardship Leaders’ Summit. Maybe you were, and you did. But if you didn’t, you missed Naty Barak, our Chief Sustainability Officer, explaining how drip irrigation supports a sustainable water future and citing some examples of how Netafim works in California. The Summit was designed to promote corporate water stewardship and the California Water Action Plan by creating a shared vision for a sustainable water … Full article click here >>

More Sun for Netafim USA

October was a big, sunny month at Netafim USA, specifically at our drip irrigation systems manufacturing facility in Fresno. It was the month in which we went live with our new 680 KW solar array, delivering up to 1,000 MWH per year, around 10% of the total power requirements of our Fresno site. This would be equivalent to supplying power to 170 average homes in California. The solar array is located on the roof or our manufacturing site and distribution … Full article click here >>

Sustainability in the desert

Back in 2011, we wrote about our pride in participating in the inauguration of a sustainability project in the Negev desert in Israel, in Wadi Attir. Devised and led by The Sustainability Laboratory, a US-based non-profit organization, and the Hura Municipal Council in Israel, Wadi Attir is a sustainable, community-based organic farming initiative on 100 acres of desert land. In addition to several others committed to the advancement of the Bedouin communities in Israel’s Negev region as an important social … Full article click here >>

Irrigation, economic growth and decent work: Advancing the SDGs

The recently published UNDP Human Development Report for 2015 identifies “sustainable work, which promotes human development while reducing and eliminating negative side effects and unintended consequences, as a major building block of sustainable development.” This is what UN SDG Number 8 is all about: economic growth underpinned by the availability of meaningful work in a positive labor environment. That brings us back to drip irrigation solutions. Irrigation is not just a way to grow crops more efficiently. It’s the basis for … Full article click here >>

Wastewater is not waste. It’s water: Advancing the SDGs

At Netafim, we are expert in smart irrigation solutions that over many years have saved trillions of liters of water for farmers around the world. Of course, “trillions of liters” is not a precise or scientific count. But if you think that around 100,000 cubic kilometers of water are used for irrigation each year (that’s about 600 times the volume of Lake Tahoe in California), and typically drip irrigation will save between 30 and 60% of water versus other irrigation … Full article click here >>

Sustainable California with Almonds: Advancing the SDGs

A recent article published in “Food Ingredients 1st”, quotes: “The California Almond Sustainability Program (CASP) shows that more than 70% of almond orchards report using water-saving micro-irrigation systems and more than 80% of growers report using demand-based irrigation in their orchards, which means they monitor weather, soil moisture and the trees themselves to determine exactly when and how much to irrigate, rather than watering on a pre-determined schedule”. In addition, Stacey Humble, Vice President of Global Marketing at the Almond … Full article click here >>

Boosting the smallholder economy: Advancing the SDGs

At Netafim, many of our efforts to drive mass adoption of drip irrigation include making drip accessible to smallholder farmers. Over the years, as awareness has grown, farmers have overcome their suspicion of new technologies and now understand the benefits of using more advanced systems. However, in many cases, even a very small initial investment is more than smallholder farmers, often living below the poverty line, can afford. Netafim has developed special solutions, such as the Family Drip System™, to … Full article click here >>
