Irrigation, economic growth and decent work: Advancing the SDGs

The recently published UNDP Human Development Report for 2015 identifies “sustainable work, which promotes human development while reducing and eliminating negative side effects and unintended consequences, as a major building block of sustainable development.” This is what UN SDG Number 8 is all about: economic growth underpinned by the availability of meaningful work in a positive labor environment. That brings us back to drip irrigation solutions. Irrigation is not just a way to grow crops more efficiently. It’s the basis for … Full article click here >>

Boosting the smallholder economy: Advancing the SDGs

At Netafim, many of our efforts to drive mass adoption of drip irrigation include making drip accessible to smallholder farmers. Over the years, as awareness has grown, farmers have overcome their suspicion of new technologies and now understand the benefits of using more advanced systems. However, in many cases, even a very small initial investment is more than smallholder farmers, often living below the poverty line, can afford. Netafim has developed special solutions, such as the Family Drip System™, to … Full article click here >>

Empowering women and girls: Advancing the SDGs

Agriculture is often regarded as a male-dominated occupation – mostly, when we use the word “farmer”, we think of men. However, most people don’t realize that the role of women in agriculture is no less significant. In fact, women comprise an average 43% of the agricultural labor force in developing countries and almost 50% in parts of Asia and sub-Saharan Africa (FAO, 2012). The use of drip irrigation helps transform the role that women play in society by enabling women … Full article click here >>

Inclusive economic growth: Advancing the SDGs

This third post in our Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) series is about inclusive economic growth. If there is one thing we have come to learn about drip irrigation, it’s that it unlocks the key to improving livelihoods for many who would otherwise struggle in poverty. Drip irrigation leads to economic advancement and a richer quality of life for farmers, their families and entire communities. SDG Goal 8 is an intention to “Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and … Full article click here >>

Zero hunger by 2030: Advancing the SDGs

Our second post in our Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) series places Goal 2 in the spotlight. Of all the 17 goals, this is one of the most relevant to our work at Netafim. It is supported by 5 specific targets that include ensuring infants receive nutritious food, ending malnutrition, advancing resilient agricultural practices, maintaining genetic diversity of cultivated plants and by 2030, … Full article click here >>

Bringing About Change for Women Smallholders

By Rachel Shaul, Head Of Corporate Marketing & External Affairs at Netafim The theme of Expo Milano 2015, “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life,” is close to Netafim’s heart.
