Bringing About Change for Women Smallholders

By Rachel Shaul, Head Of Corporate Marketing & External Affairs at Netafim

The theme of Expo Milano 2015, “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life,” is close to Netafim’s heart. One related event in which I had the privilege of participating was last week’s Women’s Forum Italy in Milan.

The Women’s Forum Italy is an initiative of the Women’s Forum for the Economy & Society and Valore D, an association of Italian companies supporting women’s leadership in the corporate world. The forum is also part of the Women’s Forum Meetings, which brings together both female and male business, governmental, academic and other global leaders. The meetings aim to give new perspectives to key issues, create a network to strengthen women’s influence worldwide, and draw up plans for encouraging women’s contributions to society and promoting business diversity.

The forum panel in which I participated was entitled “Water at the heart of agricultural sustainability.” I shared with the audience that as Netafim penetrated the smallholders market, we realized that drip irrigation can help women on several levels. For example, drip has shown that it enhances the economic status of women and increases the amount and quality of their leisure and family time.

There was great excitement and energy during the forum, and I’m sure we will continue advancing women growers as we move forward.
