Advancing the SDGs: Netafim says Yes We Will!

The new Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) ratified by the United Nations in September 2015 form a new agenda that we at Netafim are happy to support.

The SDGs include 17 goals supported by 169 specific targets to transform lives and advance prosperity for all. They include eliminating poverty and hunger, combating the negative effects of climate change, investing in women and girls, improving health, wellbeing and education, ensuring availability of clean water and sanitation and delivering inclusive economic growth. Success in advancing these goals will eradicate many of the underlying social and environmental issues we all share as a global community.

Netafim’s commitment to the SDGs is a natural evolution of the positive contribution we make to sustainable development. Through drip irrigation, we have enabled farmers around the world to deliver more produce of better quality while using less water, chemicals, energy and land. Our years of collaboration with the UN as a Global Compact LEAD member and CEO Water Mandate participant have taught us that more is needed. It is not enough to act alone. Advancing mass adoption of drip irrigation as a sustainable development solution means working collaboratively to enhance access, expand education, offer practical assistance and drive new regulatory frameworks.

The impacts of Netafim’s activities are relevant to most of the SDGs. Drip irrigation directly leads to improved food security, enhanced livelihoods, empowerment of women, conservation of water and less waste of valuable resources. Indirectly, drip irrigation contributes to positively transforming lives. That’s why, over the next several weeks, we will be sharing examples of the way drip irrigation advances specific SGDs.

The conclusion of the UN SDG Declaration is “We reaffirm our unwavering commitment to achieving this Agenda and utilizing it to the full to transform our world for the better by 2030.” At Netafim, we say Yes We Will!
